Job description

The Ashville, NC office of ECS seeks an environmental scientist with an initial emphasis on industrial hygiene [asbestos-containing materials, lead-based paint and mold surveys and remediation]. Other duties may include environmental site assessments [Phase I/II studies], UST related activities, natural resource service areas such as wetland delineations, groundwater and soil investigations, geologic and risk assessments, hydrogeologic studies, and remediation system design. You will conduct field studies, prepare reports, interface with clients and handle related office duties. You will also be involved with client maintenance and business development, proposals and presentations.

Job requirements

  • 2-3 years of Environmental Engineering, Geology or related experience preferred.
  • BS in geology or environmental science required.
  • Knowledge of State [NC/SC] and local environmental regulations required.
  • NC Asbestos and Lead Inspector licenses strongly preferred; mold inspector licensed desired; SC inspector licenses desired.
  • 40-hour Hazwoper desired.
  • Solid written and oral communication skills.
  • Interest in marketing and business development.

Job description

The Wilmington, NC office of ECS seeks an environmental scientist with an initial emphasis on industrial hygiene/indoor air quality [asbestos-containing materials, lead-based paint and mold surveys and remediation]. It is anticipated that the person hired for the position will start as a part-time employee [+/-20 hours/week] and grow into a full-time position.

The Charlotte, NC office of ECS seeks an environmental scientist or project manager with an emphasis on industrial hygiene [asbestos-containing materials, lead-based paint and mold]. Depending on your background you may also be involved in other aspects of industrial hygiene services such as health & safety. You will conduct field studies, prepare reports, interface with clients and handle related office duties. You will also be involved with client maintenance and business development, proposals and presentations. The position will be 60/40, office/field based.

Job requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience conducting asbestos-containing materials, lead-based paint, and mold assessments.
  • BS Degree in geology, biology, chemistry or a discipline related to environmental science.
  • Previous experience with field sampling, assessments and project reporting desired.

The preferred candidate shall be recognized as subject matter expert with in depth knowledge of indoor air quality and HVAC mechanical systems. The field hygienist will have the knowledge to ensure University politics as well as local, state and federal regulations and guidelines pertaining to IAQ and PPE are implemented on campus. Desire 2-4 years' experience addressing indoor environmental quality concerns. Project management experience is necessary. The position will be required to use Industrial Hygiene instrumentation for air sampling and evaluation of ventilation system performance.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's Degree or Bachelor's degree and 5 years' experience in Industrial Hygiene, Chemistry, Biology, Mechanical Engineering or related science. The preferred candidate shall be recognized as subject matter expert with in depth knowledge of indoor air quality and HVAC mechanical systems. Ability to translate complex indoor air quality concerns and corrective actions to diverse group of University employees and help them leverage that information to make effective, tactical, strategic decisions. Ability to develop and execute plans for proactive gap analyses capitalizing on best practices in the area of indoor air quality. Tailors the communication of findings, corrective actions, associated trends and potential budget impacts to the technical level of the audience. Ability to employ complex analytical techniques and draw conclusions based on experience to determine incident root causes. Demonstrated project management tools in developing and tracking of projects. Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Access and Excel. Good verbal and written communications skills. Good interpersonal skills.

Special Physical/Mental Requirements:

The position will require occasional confined space entry and working at heights. The position will require the ability to climb ladders and/or scaffolds. The position will also require the ability to lift/move equipment up to 50 pounds in weight. The position may involve exposure to hazardous materials as part of the department hazardous response team and, therefore, the individual will be incorporated into the respiratory protection program.

Responsibilities

This position is responsible for leading the Caterpillar Building Construction Products (BCP) Division environmental, health, and safety (EHS) strategy, including the following responsibilities:

  • Set direction for EHS management systems, training/development, communications, EHS processes, and metrics across division locations
  • Provide guidance to division on areas of opportunity with respect to safety and sustainability initiatives
  • Ensure sites are in compliance with government regulatory requirements and in conformance with division and Caterpillar procedures and expectations
  • Provide EHS leadership to 8 facility locations around the world as well as directly supervise an EHS team located in 4 of the 8 locations
  • Provide guidance and direction with respect to EHS and security to facility leadership and division leadership teams
  • Represent the division as the primary liaison for EHS strategy and issues, facilitating collaborative relationships within the work group, with other EHS Managers around the corporation, and with the corporate global EHS team
  • Guide facilities in driving injury reduction and investigation and ensuring compliance with applicable laws, and internal requirements
